Most Borrowed Book - Horrid Henry Robs

 
Horrid Henry Robs The Bank was the most borrowed book this school year! The children in key stage two have really enjoyed reading Francesca Simon's stories that follow the horrid school boy! Get Caught Reading Summer Competition!

Join in this summer in the latest 'Get Caught Reading' competition. To enter, have you picture taken in an unusual place and share it on the school's Facebook page or hand it into the library when we return in September.

We held the competition back in April. Here was Aimee's winning photo of her reading on Southend beach...

 
The competition will close on Thursday 12th September, with the winner being announced the following day. The competition is open to all pupils, from Nursery to year 6, with the prize being a £10 book token. Good luck!

Winners Of The Summer Term Returning Books Raffle

The winners of the Returning Books Raffle were chosen today. Pine, Mulberry and Cedar have tried really hard to remember their books this term. Well done to all pupils who entered, and the winners are...
Prince from Cedar, Ruby from Mulberry and Micayla from Pine. They each received a book in Friday's assembly.
 
 
The raffle will return in September with the added year two class.

Super Readers - Kingsley Reads 'The Hundred Mile-An-Hour-Dog Goes For Gold'

A group of pupils from year 5 have been working hard over the past term to create a magazine based on the author, Jeremy Strong. One of the features in the magazine includes a link to the first chapter of, The Hundred-Mile-An-Hour-Dog Goes For Gold. Here is the video of Kinsley reading that chapter. Broadford's Summer Reading Challenge

On Saturday, libraries across the country began their Creepy House summer reading challenge. For those of you that are not signing up, or wish to read a little extra, there are reading logs available in the library to use during the holidays. You can use you reading log alongside the Creepy House reading challenge, recording books you have read and completing short reviews. Finish your reading log during the six weeks to receive some tasty treats in September! There are extra activity sheets you can add to your reading log, the more activities you do, the more treats you'll receive.
 
 
Don't forget to change your reading books before we break up. During the holidays you can borrow two books instead of one. There are bags available to keep your books in, just ask when you visit.
 
The reading challenge is open to both key stage one and two. Have fun!

Spinebreakers - David and Leah Write To Publishers

David and Leah put together a letter on behalf of pupils at Broadford, asking for copies of new books and unpublished stories to read and review. They found the details of 13 publishers based in the UK
and posted their letters on Wednesday afternoon. 
 
 
It was a nice surprise yesterday to receive our first delivery of books in the post from Harper Collins!
 
 
An area has been set up in the library for pupils to write their own book reviews and listen to the reviews of their friends using the audioBoo app. We look forward to reading the children's reviews!

Jeremy Strong Competition Winner!

As part of the Jeremy Strong magazine club, the children organised a competition where pupils from across the school could enter a picture of one of the characters from a Jeremy Strong book. The children promoted their competition by displaying posters in classrooms and telling their friends. On Thursday, as a group, they chose their favourite picture. The winner was Tyler with her drawing of the hundred-mile-an-hour dog. They described the picture as bright, bold and as good as the original! Well done Tyler!

 
The prize was a copy of, My Brother's Favourite Bottom with her fantastic picture featuring in the magazine.

Super Readers For Multicultural Week - David Reads 'The Time Of The Lion'

Jeremy Strong Competition and KS1 Returning Books Raffle Update

The year 5 book club have been very busy working on their magazine and promoting their competition to win a copy of, My Brother's Famous Bottom. If you haven't entered already, there is still time. The last day for entries will be on Thursday 11th July, to take part draw a character from one of the Jeremy Strong books and hand it in at the library or to one of the book club members. The winner will be selected on Friday 12th July. If your stuck for ideas of who to draw take a look in our selection of Jeremy's books or ask a book club member for help.
